The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Sets The Beloved Duo Versus a Digital Device

Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing audiences to beloved figures like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a glimpse into the plot but leaving viewers curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang

In the teaser reveals the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he left for college — receiving a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the toys appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser avoids is what the sheriff is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the insignia attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is remains the driving force among the toys.
